How to Unroot your Android Devices - Universal Method of Unrooting Android Devices/Phone

What does unrooting Android mean? “Unroot” is term used for removing root on your rooted Android smartphone or tablet device. There’s two different terms of unrooting, first refers to simply removing root from your Android device. This simply means that you will be removing 2 or 3 files that gives your Android device superuser/admin access to your phone.

Universal Method of Unrooting Android Devices/Phone

Specifically, you will be removing the three files Superuser.apk (the SuperUser or SuperSU app) and su binaries (usually located in /system/bin and /system/xbin) directory.

Note: It's very importance to root your device because rooting gives you access to plenty of features and apps that you previously didn't have. But, there is always two sides to evey coin.

Why should I unroot My Rooted Android Device?

There are several reasons why you might want to unroot your device. The most important reasons is when you want to update your Android OS. Phones have been bricked in the process of trying to update to new version, and research has shown that phones with root access are victims of such circumstances.

Note: You can't update a rooted phone using the standard method. Instead, you have to use the mobile Odin pro from google play store.

How to Unroot Android Device/Phone

Instead of bothering yourself with Odin because it can be a hassle, you can unroot the device through the particular app you used to root it.

1. For example, if you rooted with the SuperSU app, you can open that app, go to Settings, then scroll down, and tap the Full unroot button. Once you tap the Full unroot button, simply tap Continue, and the unrooting process will begin. After a reboot, your device should be back to its "unrooted" state.

2. If what you used in rooting was Kingroot, you just have to locate an app called kinguser, tap on the settings icon as seen below

After that, click on 'remove root permission' as seen below

A pop-up will appear, just click on clear and your device will be restored.

3. If you didn't use either of the above listed methods, then simply download Universal Unroot from playstore to remove root access. Once you've unrooted your device, you can then go about the process of running the OTA Android update.

After the update, root the device again, and you're back...
