How To Configure Android Phone Internet Settings in Nigeria

Configuring/Setting up Android phones internet settings is one of the major problem some Android phone users do encounter some things. If you are someone that prefers to connect your Android phone or tab to the internet using mobile networks instead of wi-Fi networks, then there is need for you to activate mobile data service on your Android device. 

Most Android tablets and phones are unable to accept Over-The-Air (OTA) 3G/GPRS settings (i.e Automatic configuration settings) and for that, you need to be set up it manually.

In this post, you will learn how you can manually set up Etisalat, Glo, Airtel and MTN internet settings on your Android phone or tab, be it Samsung, HTC, LG or Tecno Android phone. You must know the APN of Etisalat, Glo, MTN and Airtel for you to be able to configure your Android for internet.



Steps to configure Internet Settings On your Android Phone or tablet
Step 1:  Tap "Menu" or "Apps"

Step 2:  Tap "Settings"

Step 3:  Tap "Wireless and Networks" or "More Settings" or “All Settings”

Step 4:  If you tapped "Wireless and Networks" => tap "Mobile Networks" => tapped "More Settings" or “All Settings” => tap "Mobile Networks" or "Mobile Data"

Step 5:  Tap "Access Point names"

Step 6:  Choose the network of your choice (i.e if your Android phone is a dual SIM type)

Step 7:  Press "Menu" (looks like four horizontal lines, a square within a square or the word Menu). Select ‘New APN’ (This is where you will enter the specific internet settings of the mobile network you want to configure on your Android device).

Let me assume you want to configure Glo Mobile GPRS settings on your Android. Just key in the details below:
Name: Glo Nigeria
APN: gloflat
Proxy:
Port:
Username: flat
Password: flat
Server:
MMSC:
MMS Proxy:
MMS Port:
MCC:
MNC:
Authentication type:
APN Type:

Step 8:  Press "Menu" and select "Save"

Step 9: Press on the grey box or circle to the right of "Glo Nigeria" and it will fill in with a smaller green dot or tick mark.

NOTE:  Enable data access over Mobile network’ is ticked.
If you look closely at the settings above, you will notice that you entered only the Name, APN, Username and Password while leaving the other parameters untouched. The four parameters are the main settings you need to configure to make your android phone or tab to browse with the mobile network of your choice.

Below are the 3G/GPRS Android Internet Settings for MTN, Glo. Airtel and Etisalat Nigeria

MTN 3G/GPRS Internet settings for Android
Name: MTN Nigeria
APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Username: web
Password: web

Glo Mobile Internet settings for Android
Name: Glo Nigeria
APN: gloflat
Username: flat
Password: flat

Airtel Internet Settings for Android
Name: Airtel Nigeria
APN: internet.ng.airtel.com
Username: internet   
Password: internet

Etisalat Internet Settings for Android
Name: Etisalat Nigeria
APN: etisalat
Username:
Password:

That's all.

Assuming you have already purchased or subscribed to a mobile data plan of your preferred mobile network, you should be able to connect to the internet after successful manual configuration of your Android device. You can restart your phone though.

NOTE: This guide is applicable anywhere in the world, provided you know the internet settings of your country's mobile networks.
